Claude Cohen Tannoudji

It is with great sadness that the Les Houches School of Physics has learned of the passing of Claude Cohen-Tannoudji, recipient of the 1997 Nobel Prize in Physics, at the age of 93. Deeply attached to our School, he first participated as a student in 1955—an experience that proved decisive in shaping his vocation as a physicist. He later returned on several occasions as an professor, notably co-directing the 1964 session dedicated to quantum optics and quantum electronics. A brilliant scientist and an exceptional educator, he embodied the values of passing on and sharing knowledge that lie at the very heart of the "Les Houches spirit." L'Ecole de Physique des Houches wishes to pay a heartfelt tribute to him.
